A Chat with Black Professionals in Tech & Cybersecurity
I attended a virtual event on zoom called “A Chat with Black Professionals in Tech & Cybersecurity” celebrating Black History Month, sponsored by the CARE Lab, Black Girls Hack, and Women in Cybersecurity. Jamie Williams, Ian Kimble, Hakeem Thomas, and Tennisha Martin shared their work experiences, challenges, and achievements of black men in their professional careers. I learned about the resilience and determination by black professionals in the tech industry. It also represented how far diversity and inclusiveness has grown in a very positive way that creates a supportive and diverse working environment where individuals from all backgrounds can work hard and contribute to achieve many accomplishments. This gives us opportunities to network and share ideas from people who have different cultural backgrounds. I also learned to be patient if you face any adversity or any stereotypes in a working environment. A lot of the recommendations and tips given in this webinar can really help me improve my technical skills and soft skills for my career.
