I was placed on a team within Temple University’s Department of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery (Lung Center). Temple University Main Campus, and the Health Science Campus located in Philadelphia PA, which employs ~ 5,000 full time faculty and administration. I was tasked with developing methods for 2 large grant submissions in a multi-site clinical trial with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I made a tool to track 2 versions of the preliminary budgets of about 30 research sites between the U.S. and Canada. I worked with the research team to understand the rules and regulations for each submission.
Additionally, I was tasked with creating and administering an in-house shared workspace/website that would keep track of deadlines, project updates, and a shared calendar for my team. I used a combination of Microsoft and Google products. The DoD and NIH have different requirements, rules, and nuances when submitting a proposal. I had to work closely with the grants management team to understand the requirements for each budget.
Once the preliminary budgets were finalized, I assisted the grants management team in preparing the proposals for the online grants management system.
The Project Management class helped me understand the process of project planning and meeting hard deadlines. The requirements for these submissions are strict, leaving a very small margin of error. The Data Analytics course helped me understand the basics of manipulating and presenting the data.
