Digital Technology Coordinator

This organization is a law firm. This law firm is a private practice located on 7442 Oxford Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The firm specializes in automobile accidents, work related injuries, slip and fall accidents, defective products causing injuries, workers compensation cases, social security disability cases, and medical malpractice cases. I was employed in the department of technology.

  1. Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks)
    1. My job function and overall role as Digital Technology Coordinator at the Law Offices of John G. Malone involved technological work and assistance, as well as clerical work. Below is a list of my assigned tasks.
      1. Data backup
      2. Preparing videos for visual presentations
      3. Reporting business expenses using Microsoft Excel
      4. Completing legal forms regarding DPW, HIPPA, and HITECH
      5. Storing and distributing these forms appropriately using computing services and applications
      6. Retrieving, collection, utilizing, and storing client information pertaining to medical history and case details
  2. Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished)
    1. Over the course of my full-time internship, the projects I worked on included conducting data backup, maintaining a data backup system, retrieving, compiling, and quantifying business expenses for accounting purposes, and the ongoing technological assistance of paralegal work. My smaller projects included maintaining the appearance of the office and storing and distributing data and information on individual clients and cases. Ultimately, I accomplished backing up the organization\’s files from a computing service to an external source for the purpose of recovering files in the case of a technological malfunction or failure. I also accomplished the technological archiving and organization of clients\’ files and records.
  3. What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this experience in the context of specific courses)
    1. From this internship, I primarily learned how to analyze information, maintain a business’ organizational functions, and process data and information in ways that are beneficial to a business. I also learned ways in which using software can streamline business processes. I learned various problem solving techniques using technology in my individual work and by observing the work of those in higher positions. These aspects of my position relate to my major, because Management Information Systems is fundamentally about utilizing data, information, and technology to solve problems, guide decisions, and benefit an organization. Specifically, my experience as an intern at this law firm related to the course “Information Systems in Organizations”, since I am able to relate my experiences to the course material involving distribution of information, using technology to fulfill business needs, and documenting business processes. Additionally, the regulations of which I learned about and complied to during my internship, such as HIPPA, are known to be crucial in management information system implementation, which I learned in my course.
