PTW19 Kickoff Festival Old City

  1. Sponsoring organization: Linode
  2. Details of the activity (e.g., where, when)
    1. Where: 249 Arch Street, Philadelphia PA 19106
    2. When Friday, May 3rd (5:00pm-10:00pm)
  3. What I learned: This event was an opportunity for networking and promotion. There were various organizations promoting there services. With this, I learned about the company Linode. Linode provides virtual servers. At the event, Linode advertised that they have \”optimized the process for launching the infrastructure you need to support distributed applications, hosted services, websites, and CI/CD environments\”. Their services involve web and mobile apps, websites, big data, hosting services, gaming, and containerization. By using their services, one can choose and compute storage for applications using their control panel, API, or CLI. I also learned that Linode provides users with the ability to \”deploy, manage, and scale website and e-commerce solutions\” through their backup and load balancing services. Their services also eliminate redundancy. I also learned about Technically Philly. Technically Philly is a blog involving the technology community of Philadelphia. They are launching in reaction to the region\’s growing technology-based \”creative economies\”. They publish \”daily updates, profiles, reviews, and listings\”.
  4. This activity relates to Data Analytics (MIS 2502). This is mainly because the event was sponsored by Linode. Linode informed me about their use software to process big data. We touched on the subject of big data in MIS 2502, and I learned that it can be used to uncover trends and make business decisions. At this event, Linode advertised that if users are \”processing data, managing large-scale databases or distributed in-memory caches\”, their services can make it more convenient to \”collect, store, process, and analyze large data sets\”.
