Work Experience at MBC Solutions, LLC
From early July until the end of August, I worked as a technician at MBC Solutions, LLC in Scranton, PA. MBC Solutions is a third-party IT vendor, and worked both per diem and on contract with many small and medium sized businesses in Northeast PA. I had the opportunity to shadow the other technicians there, which included work in the office and traveling to clients to help with on-site work and maintenance.
Visiting countless different clients gave me the opportunity to see a wide variety of different architectural setups and network configurations. Some clients had extremely simple configurations with a small sample of workstations to power, while others were much larger. Some of the activities I had to opportunity to oversee/assist with include but are not limited to: network configuration, PC install/software install, file transfers, virus irradiation techniques, Sonicwall installation, PC maintenance practices, VPN deployments, and virtualization.
This was a great opportunity for me to get a taste of IT in medium sized businesses. I found it to be very beneficial, as that the type of organization I plan to try to find employment in following graduation– I don’t have much of a desire to go corporate, at least not right away. Working with so many different clients provided me with insight into some of the common problems businesses may encounter with IT, and how IT can be utilized to solve them.
