Enterprise IT Architecture

Enterprise IT Architecture explored how to derive business value from many different technologies. We gained hands on experience using Microsoft Azure in creating servers to serve many different purposes– such as a domain controller, network monitor, file server, and a MySQL server among others.

We learned about many different technologies by writing flash research assignments, which are short memos explaining the advantages of implementing a specific technology in a given business scenario. Here are two of my flash research assignments from this course:

Microsoft SharePoint
Microsoft WordPress

Data Analytics

In this class, I learned a lot about how to use MySQL and how databases work. There was a strong emphasis on drawing our ERD-diagrams and other schemas that would allow us to see and understand the outline of a database. I enjoyed the work we did with MySQL, and liked learning about databases, how they work, and how to properly maintain them.

Data-Centric Applications Development

This class focused on teaching us HTML, CSS, PHP, while also touching on SQL and PDO statements. This course was very challenging for me because I had no background writing code, so there was definitely much for me to learn. I know that the tools I take from this class will be vital to my success in the real world, where I could be working with many different types of code that I need to understand. I plan to continue practicing coding and learning new methods beyond this class.

Digital Design and Innovation Studio

This course introduced me to the responsibilities Business Analysts often possess. The majority of the course work is devoted to the semester-long group project. We had to design a prototype for Be Heard Philly, a Philadelphia-based survey panel, that would allow them to register new users. One of the main challenges associated with this project was the information elicitation, which took place over the course of three interviews with three separate stakeholders from the organization. Based on the information we collected during those interviews, we began to shape our prototype to the organizations apparent needs using JustInMind software, and presented to our to the stakeholders at the end of the semester.

Information Systems Integration

In the capstone course for the major, all of the concepts we learned throughout the duration the curriculum were tied together. We demonstrated and applied our knowledge through a semester-long project building a prototype to improve a current process or create a new product. My team formed the application Maptivities, which centralizes the process of finding the events around you. Our project site details our vision for Maptivities, includes our project documentation, and also our final presentation and prototype demonstration.
