Information Technology Intern at Merck
Merck & Co. Inc. was founded in 1891 by the Merck Family. Over the years Merck has designed some life changing medicine that cover many different areas from Vaccines to Diabetes to Oncology. Today, the company is now 69,000 people strong in over 140 countries all focusing on “Inventing for Life”. Merck made over $39.8 billion in revenue in 2016 thanks to its newest drug “Keytruda”, that helps stop cancer and saved many lives. During my summer there I worked in the Global Human Health Center of Excellence with a focus on their latest Virtual Reality efforts for their sales team. My role was to be the BA during this introductory time of the project. I had to create key documentation needed, such as timelines and requirements, for the project to get business funding approval. In addition, I had to meet with several vendors and analyze which will best suit our business’s needs. Towards the end of my internship I had the opportunity to select a permanent BA for the project as well as on-board them. During the summer, Merck fell victim to a cyber attack that halted all operations. During this time, I was able to help out with the recovery efforts needed for the business to get back up and running again. I have learned a lot from my time there from learning how to get a project funded to the application of a BA and PM role in the real work and to see how quickly things can change.
