Information Technology Intern at QVC

QVC (an acronym for “Quality, Value, Convenience”) is an American cable, satellite and broadcast television network, and multinational corporation specializing in televised home shopping that is owned by Liberty Interactive. Founded in 1986 by Joseph Segel in West Chester, Pennsylvania, United States, QVC broadcasts to more than 350 million households in seven countries as QVC US, QVC UK, QVC Germany, QVC Japan, QVC Italy, QVC/CNR (China) and QVC France.

There were many experiences I gained from my 12-week internship at QVC. I learned the core integration of teamwork in a huge business, and how to achieve project goals on time. I also learned how each individual team within IT collaborated to create a thriving business for the customers. Lastly, I learned how to work with people from all over the world, and in my time there I worked with individuals from China, Germany, Italy, and France. This was a great learning experience because it gave me insight into how QVC operates internationally, and it gave me the opportunity to appreciate and accept other cultures.

My role at QVC was within Change Management. I worked with a team of Change Managers to implement changes on websites, applications, and servers. This was a critical job because most of these changes were customer facing. This means that we had to run these builds/migrations in off-hours where customers would not be impacted. Within Change Management I helped determine those changes that would be critical to customers, and I was the final decision maker of whether or not that change could be implemented. This was a huge responsibility for me as an intern, but they trained me really well and I picked up how to identify these critical changes and when to implement them.
