Cybersecurity Careers: Become a Penetration Tester
I recently completed an introductory LinkedIn Learning course, Becoming a Penetration Tester, taught by Tennisha Martin. This course provided a overview of penetration testing as a career, including the foundational skills and technical knowledge required to excel in the field. Through engaging lessons, I gained insights into operating systems, risk fundamentals, and web and network security principles. Tennisha introduced me to ethical hacking techniques and practical tools such as Kali Linux and platforms like Bandit and TryHackMe, which I could use to explore real-world scenarios in a hands-on manner. The course also emphasized the importance of building a home lab to gain practical experience and how to effectively represent that experience on a resume and LinkedIn profile. This experience reinforced my interest in cybersecurity and equipped me with actionable steps to further develop my skills in penetration testing.
