Week 7 Questions

Use these questions to help you prepare for assessments or exams. Note that these questions are not specifically the ones that will be on either the assessment or exam; the goal of answering these is for you to go back into the readings and gain a deeper understanding.

  1. Understand the parts of a database. What are objects? What kinds of data can these objects be?
  2. What is SQL and what can it do for databases? What about NoSQL?
  3. What is a DBMS? Besides the data problems it can solve, name 3 uses for it in today’s business environment.
  4. What are tables in a relational database? How are multiple tables connected? Why do we even use tables at all?
  5. Describe Database Security and name its 3 layers.
  6. What is a Data Mart, and how does it differ from a Data Warehouse? What are the types of Data Marts and why would you use each in business?
  7. We’ve talked a lot about the Cloud at this point. What benefits do you think a Cloud Database has vs a traditional, on-premises database?
  8. How are Web and Data Mining different? Similar? Why do organizations use these tools?
  9. DBMS can help solve data redundancy, inconsistency, and security. Give a short description for how a DBMS overcomes each issue.
  10. What is OLAP? Where can we use this software in business?
