- What you learned
- This webinar was all about Leadership and started out by defining the term delegation, transferring responsibility for a task from one person to another. The speaker really emphasized the importance of identifying the level of business impact and execution complexity of a task before deciding to delegate it to other co-workers. A decision matrix can also be used to evaluate a task and determine whether it should be delegated. If you are still unsure of what to do with a task, it can be beneficial to ask questions to gain a clear understanding of what to expect and what to manage after delegating a task. The webinar then ended with the four common barriers to effective delegation and some strategies to overcome them.
- How the activity relates to coursework or your career goals
- I can admit that when working with others I am someone who tends to volunteer to take on the most work, underestimating how much time and effort is needed to complete said task. I wish I could have attended this webinar sooner because it taught me the importance of delegating tasks and how to do so efficiently and effectively. Delegation not only allows managers to focus on strategic priorities but also helps to develop the skills and abilities of team members, which is always a plus.
