Details of the career fair (e.g., where, when)
- Online, April 20th
What you learned
- I will say that many companies present at this career fair weren’t ones that I was really interested in, but I thought it would be a good way to get out of my comfort zone. I’ve come to the realization that I am someone who struggles with interviewing and just holding a professional conversation with someone who I am intimidated by, so going to this kind of event helps me work on that. Out of the exhibitors present, I chose to briefly talk to the Library of Congress and the National Credit Union purely out of curiosity. From these conversations, I learned just how difficult it can be to land a job with these companies and how many credentials are needed to hold a position of that stature.
How the career fair relates to coursework or your career goals
- This career fair relates back to my career goals because it helps me develop my communication skills, which I previously mentioned is something I struggle with. I am also searching for niche areas of work related to my major to help narrow down what it is I am looking for in a job so speaking to people at companies that I wouldn’t think of typically working at helps with that as well.
