Build an IT Organizational Structure that Drives Efficiency

  1. Name of sponsoring organization
    1. Gartner Webinars
  2. Details of the activity (e.g., where, when)
    1. Online, April 24th
  3. What you learned
    1. The speaker introduced the webinar by talking about how to create an IT organizational structure that is aligned with the organization’s objectives and drives efficiency. She then shifted to explaining that a well-designed IT organizational structure should have clear and consistent priorities, sufficient bandwidth, clear direction and purpose, and aligned expectations. The purpose of an efficient IT factory is to deliver services reliably that meet customer needs at a defined level of quality, cost, and performance. The speaker also proposed a process-based structure to define the delivery model and IT functions based on the maturity level of each area.
  4. How the activity relates to coursework or your career goals
    1. I personally think that this webinar was very insightful and related more to my career goals than my coursework. If I ever get a chance in my professional career to lead an organizational structure such as the one mentioned in the webinar, then I can surely use the information given to properly lead that structure. However, when thinking about a more entry-level position, the acts of defining my purpose and adapting to deliver said purpose will be very helpful.
