Develop IT Metrics That Matter to Executive Leadership

  1. Name of sponsoring organization
    1. Gartner Webinars
  2. Details of the activity (e.g., where, when)
    1. Online webinar, April 4th
  3. What you learned
    1. In this webinar, the speakers emphasized the importance of being able to communicate value in the languages of IT, finance, and business outcomes. The speakers discussed different metrics that can be used to measure value, such as value expected, value-added, and value realized. They also introduced the Confidence Influence Value Matrix, which can help identify the leading and lagging indicators that have the highest influence on stakeholder decision-making. This webinar also showcased an example of an IT dashboard that showed the strategic value and discussed the evolution of outcome-driven KPI value dashboards. I didn’t really know much about this topic at all so having tables as visuals really helped digest the information being presented.
  4. How the activity relates to coursework or your career goals
    1. Since this webinar provided insights into the importance of communicating IT metrics that align with executive leadership’s priorities, I can now use these skills to better assist my future leadership positions. As I mentioned in previous posts, communication isn’t my strong suit so getting a step-by-step on what needs to be communicated and why was extremely helpful to me. By applying these concepts learned, I can effectively measure the performance of IT initiatives and demonstrate their value to my future executive leadership.
