Cyber Security at Penn Medicine

I started working for Penn Medicine in May 2017. As an intern on the Cyber Security team, my roles were to help the team with Help-Desk tickets, patch medical devices, research on vendors for risk analysis and help create a matrix for other help-desk technicians and learning applications within the Kali Linux. At Penn Medicine I learned how to trouble-shoot and solve problems. I taught myself plenty of new skills and learned how to Google search when things got hard. The most valuable thing I learned from Penn Medicine was during one of our meetings. CISO Dan Costantino taught me that, “Security is not an IT issue but a business issue”. At the end of the day, it’s the entire business responsibility to keep their data and intellectual property secure from bad actors. Without support from the business and building security in the culture, security is a tough thing to accomplish.
