Student Professional Organizations
Toastmasters International
Temple Toastmasters is an international organization that helps its 313,000 members develop their public speaking skills. As a speaker in the Temple University chapter, I am developing my ability to deliver impromptu and prepared speeches. Last year, I received the “Outstanding New Member” and “District Speech Contestant” awards. As vice president, I assist in weekly operations and communicate with external parties within the Fox School of Business and Toastmasters International.
Business Honors Student Association
The purpose of the Business Honors Student Association is to create a community within Fox School of Business’ Fox Honors program as well as develop its members’ professional skills. In addition to weekly professional development and networking events, the organization has service and social events that are often attended by alumni and corporate sponsors. As director of fundraising, I was responsible for running a book sale, tie sale, dodgeball tournament and five bake sales. In addition, I stocked and marketed our ongoing concessions sale. Throughout the semester, I collaborated with my co-director and oversaw a fundraising committee to help meet our end-of-the-year fundraising goals.
Association for Information Systems
The Association for Information Systems is an organization that is dedicated to providing students interested in Management Information Systems with networking opportunities and practical skills. Temple University’s chapter is the founding chapter of this organization and received the highest honor, chapter of the year, in 2013.
I declared Management Information Systems as my major in the fall of 2014 so I am just starting to get involved. I am currently attending networking meetings and professional workshops. I am also involved in AIS’s TDAP, Technical Development Application Program, which teaches students technical skills like HTML, CSS and JavaScript through instruction and application of these skills toward the completion of a final project.
Entrepreneurial Student Association
Dates Participated: Fall 2013 – Spring 2014
Temple’s Entrepreneurial Student Association is geared toward students with entrepreneurial mindsets. Speakers include start-up founders, professors, serial entrepreneurs and CEOs from the Philadelphia area. The speakers teach different entrepreneurial skills such as the application of invisible capital and feasibility of cloud computing to innovators and businesses.
