Block Clean-Up
AIS hosted a community service event for the club, in which myself and 3-4 other students in my group cleaned trash off of the ground on Willington Street in North Philadelphia. My role was to carry a trash bag and pick up trash off of the street, with the goal to fill up as many trash bags as possible within an hour of clean-up. The Association for Information Science sponsored this block clean up. I learned that the streets in our community are much dirtier than we realize; and that cleaning up the block is a great way to connect with more people and help the environment at the same time. I met people I have never met before, and we were able to efficiently clean the block together all while learning more about each other and how to work together to benefit the environment. As a result, we were able to clean up more than just Willington Street with practically no trash visibly on the ground, and we all made friends along the way. I had fun during this clean-up; being able to make new friends while helping the environment is a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.
