One of my favorite things to do is travel. I have been to South Korea, Japan, all along the east coast, and California last summer. The world is a big place, so immersing myself whenever I have the time is an amazing experience. Seeing the differences in culture even across the states has broadened my perspective and gave me the experience to be able to interact with people of diverse backgrounds. It lets me know that there is more to the world than Philadelphia. This winter, I will be going to San Juan in Puerto Rico, and I am counting down the days now!
Language Learning
Since middle school, I have always loved learning languages. I have learned Japanese for the past 7 years, and I have become fairly proficient from it. I have continued my learning by taking Advanced 3001 this semester. I studied abroad briefly for a few weeks over the summer in Tokyo, Okinawa, and Kyoto in Japan which was a great experience to help my language skills and gain perspective. Additionally, I am self-studying Mandarin as a lot of my friends are from China and I find it a very interesting challenge due to its high difficulty. Lastly, I am of Korean heritage, and keeping the family traditions alive is very important to me. I grew up speaking it, and I have been learning more technical aspects as I have grown up. I want to be able to connect to my family more through their mother tongue and further strengthen my relationship with my cultural past. Hence, one of my favorite quotes:
