Alexion Analytics Challenge in the AIS Student Chapter Leadership Conference
We won the 1st place in the Alexion Analytics Challenge in the AIS Student Chapter Leadership Conference during the AIS conference at Temple University last weekend.
We analyzed an extensive amount of openly available government data that reports the monetary funds that flow from big pharmaceutical companies to research hospitals and individual doctors all over the country.
We combined our findings with research on the burden of different types of cancer on society and developed an approach that determines which types of cancer are overfunded and which types of cancer are underfunded based on their burden on society.
As an aspiring software developer with an affinity for data analysis, analyzing a real-world dataset and combine it with further research in order to gain meaningful insight, as well as leverage world-class tools such as Tableau and also Python and R to explore and visualize the data, was a great learning experience from which I will benefit immensely going forward, as you need to really understand how to work with these tools in order to provide a meaningful result.
