Anyone running into this config error message when they try to run the “hello world” webpage?
This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault=”Deny”), or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode=”Deny” or the legacy allowOverride=”false”.
This may have something to do with your web server installation, Check out the following link and let me know if you are able to troubleshoot this issue further:
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /Default.aspx/
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.6.1069.1
This error basically means that the web server for whatever reason cannot find the file “Default.aspx”. While there could be many causes I would verify the file exists and that your web path is correct based on your web server and visual studio settings.
I am having trouble installing ISS on my VM. At the section where I am supposed to check “Restart the destination server automatically if required” and press “Install”. There is an error that says:
Do you need to specify an alternate source path? One or more installation selections are missing source files on the destination server. The server will try to get missing source files from Windows Update, or from a location that is specified by Group Policy. You can also click the “Specify an alternate source path” link on this page to provide a valid location for the source files.
I can’t complete the installation because of this error. I did some research but I have no idea how to perform the fixes.
I am not sure why your windows server instance is not able to install this new feature, but the error basically means that windows cannot locate the installation files required to install the web server IIS.
Since, I am not sure how you configured this server you many want to consider recreating your IIS VM since it seems like something isn’t working properly.
Remember, you can always download windows server 2012 from the software site and point to it in the event you need to install files that the server cannot access for whatever reason.

Got it. Working on the rest now – I needed to install Web Server (IIS) Feature as well, and then reset all of the feature delegations. Thank you.
