Intro to 3d Modeling: Imagining Biosphere
The activity was a hands-on workshop titled “Intro to 3D Model: Imagining Biosphere,” which introduced participants to Unity, particle systems, VFX graph tools, and point-cloud–based 3D modeling. It was hosted by Jiayu Yang, an extern and PhD candidate in Documentary Arts and Visual Research. My role was to attend the workshop, follow the Unity setup steps, and participate in the tutorial exercises that demonstrated how particles, point clouds, and generative biosphere visuals can be created. I learned how Unity’s particle system and VFX Graph can simulate complex visual effects, how point clouds represent real-world 3D data, and what resources (like Sketchfab, Asset Store, and GitHub tools) can support future 3D modeling projects. Overall, the session helped me understand the creative and technical foundations of 3D visualization and how these tools can be used to build immersive, nature-inspired digital environments.
