MIS 2502 Extra Credit

  • For this assignment, the goal was to research about ways that data analytics are being used in a real world business.  For my research, I talked about the growing interest of data analytics for player analysis in sports, especially baseball.  Not only did it talk about how teams like the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs have seen massive success from this, but also how Major League Baseball has been one of the pioneers for Amazon Web Services’ Statcast system in sports.  As someone who loves sports I have always found stats interesting and to be able to relate that to my field is the perfect scenario for me.

IBIT/CDI Challenge

  • For this activity, I was part of a group that competed in the Temple Analytics Challenge.  It was our group’s job to take the data set we chose, then answer questions about it and make an infographic to go along with it.  We decided to do ours comparing e-sports and its viewership to that our regular sports.  Through this, we were able to compare side by side how the viewers of this two things compare, and how media companies should align themselves to cover them.

Intro to JavaScript: Build a Virtual Pet

  • For this event, the goal was to be able to develop my learning in using JavaScript and develop my own application.  The application that we developed was a virtual dog simulation similar to that of a Tamagotchi.  As we continued to learn different things, the application became more complex as we were adding more specifics to it.  This is something that is important for me in my field because JavaScript is such a well known and widely used computer programming language.  Not only that, with some of Temple’s courses involving learning and using JavaScript, it can give me a leg up in some of my classes.
