Coursework

  • Data Science
    • The main goal for this course is to harness the power of data by using different data systems to store, organize, and analyze data.  We were able to do this through using different systems like Tableau to be able to take the data we had collected, and turn it into an easily readable graphic.  We also learned the basics on storing and managing our data and what techniques to use to make all of these processes easier.  As an MIS major, this was a great GenEd to take to be able to introduce me to what I would be learning later on.

  • Data Analytics
    • The goal in this course was to learn different types of data and how to analyze, model, and design database solutions for organizations.  We began to use programs like SQL and R/Rstudio to take massive quantities of data and find specific information from it.  We also learned skills like combining data sets and how important keeping everything organized is to keeping a unified data set.  With all companies using some form of data analytics today more than ever, these skills could be very important for me going forward in my career.
  • Excel for Business Application
    • This course was all about learning the basics on all the different ways that Excel can be used.  From basic functions to finding specific data in large spreadsheets, it gives a good overview of the Microsoft Excel system.  With excel being ever present in data analytics, it is very important to my future that I have this high understanding of it.
  • Information Systems in Organizations
    • This course is the basic introduction to different types of information systems and how they are organized and run.  It also gives us a look into a real business information system through the cloud-based CRM system SalesForce.  CRM is a very basic tool that every company utilizes to manage and store all interactions they have with their customers.
  • Business Communications
    • In this course the main goal was to learn how to communicate and present in a business setting.  Being able to present well is an important skill in the business world because not only are business presentations common, but you are also basically presenting about yourself when you go into an interview.  We also learned what a company should and definitely should not do when faced with an unexpected crisis.
  • Business Society and Ethics
    • In this course we learn about how companies chan be run in ethical ways while still looking out for their profits and shareholders.  Ethics around the workplace is becoming increasingly more important so it is necessary to know these ethical principles.  Without it, it will not only be a bad look for the company, but the company will begin to suffer as a whole.  Because of that, it’s important for every employee of a company to have strong ethical values, including myself.
  • Operations Management
    • In this course, we learn to use technology to strategize business plans and decipher what the best course of action for a company would be.  Using programs like excel, we are able to create spreadsheets to determine if a process is being run efficiently, and if it can be improved in any way.  Businesses use strategies like this to try to save time and money that can be invested back into the business, the workers, or the stockholders.  I can use this in a future career to see the importance how much money managing a company in the right way can save.
