UPenn FemmeHacks

FemmeHacks is UPenn’s annual hackathon for women and non-binary engineers. This year’s hackathon is 36 hours, starting on Friday, 2/23 till Saturday 2/24 in Spring 2024 at UPenn’s Levine Hall. This event is hosted by UPenn and sponsors include Jane Street, Google Cloud, Blue Origin, and Wharton among others. The event will consist of numerous workshops including Web Dev, Machine Learning, UX Design, App Dev, PhD Talks, Intro to Git, and more. I expect to expand my tech stack and get the chance to network with other women and non-binary engineers in a safe space while applying the skills I learn in the workshops and at Temple.

In this year’s FemmeHacks, I learned how to use React Native combined with my skills in web dev (HTML, CSS, and JS). I used these skills to build a web app about Ada Lovelace and her contributions to CS as a woman ponieer in the field to encourage more women into entering the CS field.
