GRC 803 The Art of Sacred Space
Sacred space was a class primarily focused on ancient Greek and Roman culture. I am interested in history and this class provided me with the opportunity to learn more about cultures I was not very familiar with. Both the Greeks and the Romans were known for their technological achievements, which were shaped by the society and religions of the time. While the MIS major provides me with knowledge on the technologies of today, it’s interesting to me to learn about where these technologies evolved from. The course concluded with a creative project, for which I created a 3D model of the destroyed Theater of Pompey.

CIS 1068 Capstone
In my senior year of high school I dual-enrolled in a capstone computer science class. Over the course of two semesters, myself and the three other students in the class were responsible for the creation of a practical project to help the school in some way. We decided to create an application for the school’s Writing Center, and conducted interviews with their sponsor to determine what was needed. We then created a scope of work and planned the design and functions of the application with an emphasis on planning on paper before beginning to write code. In the end, we created a web application linked with an SQL database to handle user accounts, appointments, and schedules for an organization that previously operated spontaneously and only by paper, and presented our project to the school administrators. The project was a great learning experience to me as I had never before made a project based on another group’s needs instead of my own. Conducting interviews and surveys to determine what would be done, as well as formally presenting our project in the end, were all entirely new to me. Another new challenge was that one of our four members was elsewhere and could only work with us asynchronously online.
