AIS Mentorship Program

I have participated in the AIS mentorship program for every semester of my college career.  I have found that having an older, more experienced MIS student to talk to has benefited my academic career in many aspects.  Some of the things I’ve been able to learn about through the program include optimizing my 4 year class plan, creating a professional looking e-portfolio and resume, and acquiring PRO and FLDP points.  Both of the mentors I had were very helpful and answered any questions I had for them, whether it was about MIS, school or any topic of discussion.  My mentors have been Temple MIS students Lauren Soentgen, David Saddic, and Colin Dalessandro.  The mentorship program has helped countless students since its inception and is an essential program for the future of the AIS and MIS programs here at Temple.  My most recent mentor, Colin Dalessandro, has helped me prepare to become an upperclassmen entering the summer of 2020.  We discussed the Fox CSPD requirements and resume critique, my courses and progress within the MIS curriculum, and tips for landing internships.  Over the course of our meetings, I became much more prepared for my future academics and in other aspects of being an upperclassmen.

I think employers should especially look at student prospects that participate in the mentorship program.  If you are a mentor, it shows a great sense of empathy and a desire to go above and beyond for someone elses benefit.  I cant even begin to name the amount of question about business school and the MIS department in general that I would have had it not been for my amazing mentors.  If you are a mentee, it shows you have a sense of humbleness and a strong desire to learn and go above and beyond your expectations.  I didnt need to be a mentee, it was completely optional.  However, it helped me tremendously in the long run and by taking that extra initiative, I was able to take my skills and knowledge as a Fox business student to the next level.
