Pfizer – Engagement & Delivery Team

As of May 2019, I work at Pfizer on the Enterprise Solutions Center Engagement & Delivery Team as a project manager/business analyst student worker. On this team, I perform project management and business analyst roles on a variety of different projects.

My first assigned project at Pfizer is the upgrade of Pfizer’s Trial Master File to a next generation software solution. On this 15 person team, I assist the program management team by scheduling stakeholder meetings, recording minutes, creating and updating project documents, and assisting cross-functional team members on various assignments. I also worked with a consultant from Phlexglobal to gather and record over 150 requirements across 4 different teams to be used in a Request for Proposal. The team is currently putting the RFP together. In July, I took over as the Engagement & Delivery Lead for a software application upgrade. In this role, I am responsible for ensuring project timelines and milestones, facilitating status meetings to ensure team alignment, and assisting with updating development life-cycle documentation. This application is set to upgrade to production in the near future.

In addition to my responsibilities as a project manager and business analyst, I spent 5 weeks of the summer participating in a Pfizer sponsored, student worker Hackathon and Shark Tank event. This year, the challenge was to increase medical adherence among patients by creating a smart-phone application and marketing campaign to payers. Working with 5 other students, 2 coaches, and a mentor, our team put together a solution and presented it to a panel of 5 judges. Our team came in 1st place out of 8 total competitors. My primary responsibilities on the team were creating the budget, working on the wire-frame, researching the existing market place, and presenting a use case of the application to the judges. This project was extremely valuable, as I learned a lot about the macro-pharmaceutical industry and how payers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and healthcare organizations interact.

SEI Investments – Private Banking Solutions Team

In the summer of 2018, I worked for SEI Investments on the Private Banking Solutions team. This position was a perfect fit for me, as it was a mix between MIS and Finance. The solutions team essentially bridged the gap between the technology and the business operations.

The private banking unit of SEI is responsible for delivering the firm’s core competencies (investment management, investment processing, investment operations, and technology) in a way that supports the business objectives of the wealth management departments of banking and trust institutions across the United States. Within Private Banking, the Solutions team was responsible for the strategic packaging and delivery of those competencies and services. The team sits between the clients, core competencies of the organization (Operations, Technology, Corporate, Investment Management Unit, Product Management, etc.), and other market units to champion to business objectives of the US Private Banking Market.

On this team, I worked for the Solution Owner responsible for timely, financially accurate, and informative custodial reporting off of the SEI Wealth Platform to assist with the delivery of the solution to both the institutional and private wealth clients, accounts, and interested parties within the banks that are serviced via the SEI Wealth Platform. I performed various tasks within this team, but my largest project involved cleaning up (creating rules for future codes, editing grammar, etc.) description and treatment code names within the database. I was assigned as the project lead, where I learned how to identify and communicate with various stakeholders throughout the company to create the optimal solution.

In addition to my work on the Solutions team, I worked with 8 other interns on a 10 week case study project about student loan debt. We were tasked with analyzing and researching the growing student loan debt market, and coming up with how SEI could best position itself to benefit from this market. This experience was a great learning experience, as I had never worked in a team this large before. We learned how to effectively communicate with various departments throughout SEI to obtain the necessary information and constraints for the project.
