HooHacks 2020 UVA’s Annual Hackathon – Online
The hackathon was hosted online by University of Virgina that started at 9:00 am on Saturday 28th and ended Sunday 11th pm. Participants communicated through hoohack slack and joined zoom for announcements or workshops or working with group members. I found it a bit difficult to communicate with teammates at first through Zoom because we were working on creating a game similar to flappy bird. Things started to get better as we assigned roles. I worked on the html portion. Unfortunately, we did not place as our code functionality did not work. I learned to complete a project under pressure and how to communicate effectively with members over zoom. In addition, I learned how to meet deadlines for coding projects and best practices to efficiently work through a project. This is helpful for my career as I believe that we will see an increase in working online in the near future as companies and businesses prepare for another crisis such as coronavirus to not disrupt their operations.
