From Historical Maps to Digital Stories: Georeferencing and Digitizing with AllMaps and Mapwarper
I attended the online workshop From Historical Maps to Digital Stories: Georeferencing and Digitizing with AllMaps and Mapwarper, hosted by Temple University Libraries and led by Felipe Valdez . This session introduced me to the fundamentals of georeferencing historical maps and demonstrated how tools like AllMaps and Mapwarper can align old cartographic materials with modern coordinate systems to support digital storytelling and spatial analysis. Since this topic was completely new to me, I participated as a learner, observing the walkthroughs and gaining a clearer understanding of how historians, geographers, and digital humanities scholars use these methods to visualize changes in urban development, the environment, and social patterns over time. The workshop broadened my awareness of how historical maps can be transformed into meaningful digital research resources.
