American Marketing Association Regional Case Competition
For this competition, my team was challenged to create a marketing communications plan for a sponsoring company. We conducted research, developed strategies, created a budget, and compiled all of our information into a forty-page written case document. Our written case document scored a 95.10/100, the highest score out of 43 competing universities across the country.
- Indicate 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place
Our written case document was awarded 1st place.
2. Name of sponsoring organization
Temple University American Marketing Association.
3. Details of the activity (e.g., where, when, what you won)
We submitted our written case document in early December, 2020, and were awarded first place on January 22, 2021. Because we are amongst the top 10 finalists, we will be able to present our case to the executive marketing team of the sponsoring company, PODS Moving & Storage, on April 5, 2021.
4. What you learned
From participating in this competition, I have learned about how to conduct effective primary and secondary research, how to develop marketing communications tactics, how to utilize different strategies to increase brand awareness and customer retention, how to create a formal case document, how to develop a budget, and many other skills related to the marketing field. I have also gained important communication and teamwork skills from working intimately with nine other students and three faculty advisors throughout the year to develop our case.
5. How the activity relates to coursework or your career goals
The AMA Collegiate Case Competition relates strongly to my coursework as I am an MIS and Marketing double major. The experiences that I’ve had working on the case team will directly benefit me in my marketing research and data analytics courses. Also, my strengthened communication, presentation, and teamwork skills will help me in all my courses here at Temple and throughout my professional career.
