Thinkful Speaker Series | Breaking Into Technical Project Management

In this event, Thinkful had a guest speaker, Wayne McClure, from Nielsen to speak on technical project management. Before this, he gave us his path to his current job coming from a jeweler background. A big key idea that tied most of the knowledge that was presented was the purpose of project managers. For example, it was honed in from the start that the biggest idea when dealing with project management is tying the technical foundation in a relatable manner coupled with business ideas. As long as this can be successfully done, one can advance their career in this field. It is more so than having knowledge of coding rather the people skills and simplifying ideas to business professionals is vital in this area. Lastly, McClure leaves us with three principles that will allow one to become a project manager. This consists of technical acumen, business acumen, and understanding people. This led me to brainstorm the ideas that drive me in my current major and what I want to do with it. Learning more about project management has spiked my interest in this direction.
