COURSEWORK
Each of the following classes I have taken so far in the MIS program have contributed to my professional readiness in the IT business field in distinct ways.
- Data Science: This course introduced me to the process of turning large amounts of data into an infographic that tells a story. I incorporated successful data visualization techniques through the use of Tableau. Ultimately, this course provided me the fundamentals of utilizing a company’s data to improve business decisions.
- Data-Centric Application Development: This course has taught me the essentials of HTML and PHP for the purpose of creating a dynamic website. Eventually these skills would combine with the use of SQL in order to input/retrieve data to/from a database. This was my first in-depth exposure to programming languages and it supplied me with some of the coding skills necessary for a career in this field.
- Data Analytics: This course furthered my knowledge on working within a transactional database and took a closer look at the entire process that surrounds data analysis. I gained experience utilizing SQL and learned how to discover trends in data via data mining techniques.
- Digital Design Studio: Throughout the course of the semester I worked on a team as a business analyst to develop an internal system prototype for ARI Fleet, a global fleet management company that is looking to expand into a new market. I gained experience working as a business analyst for a real company and in utilizing JustinMind software to design the prototype.
- Enterprise IT Architecture: In this course I learned about the fundamentals of the architecture and networking involved in enterprise technology. I utilized Microsoft Azure to deploy various Virtual Machines and configure their files, disks, and other settings as needed for hypothetical business scenarios.
