IT Projects Internship at HSX
Starting in November 2016 I began an IT projects internship at HealthShare Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania Inc. (HSX), the region’s health information exchange (HIE). HSX links hospitals and other healthcare providers in the region so they can obtain comprehensive records of all aspects of a patient’s care. HSX also links directly with health insurance providers so they can get timely information related to claims.
My role at HSX includes deploying information systems on new platforms and working with IT project managers to develop new services and connections with clients. While migrating systems, I learned how to automate the process of backing up server instances, set up server status alerts, create monitoring dashboards, and execute automation code written in Python and Javascript (Node.js) independent of servers hosting information. Some of the systems and platforms I have worked with include AWS, health information exchange software, medical record analytics software for checking the validity of a single patient’s record, and enterprise grade endpoint protection. While working with project managers, I have learned about the process of soliciting requirements from clients and working to plan the software that will translate data shared between incompatible systems.
