Interests and Activities

As someone who views every day as a gift, I appreciate the opportunites that I have on campus as a student but I also take full advantage of my free time when I’m not in class or focused on school work. When I’m not spending time with my family or taking my dogs (all four of them!) to the park, you can most likely find me: watching the Phillies, reading anything  about fashion, or cooking.

“We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone – we find it with others.” This Thomas Merton quote is one that I live by. My family and friends are a huge part of my life and largely what defines me. Hard work, happiness, and loyalty are just a few qualities that I have learned from the people that I surround myself with.

Growing up in a family being the only girl, sports, particularly baseball, was my way of fitting in with the guys. My grandfather and dad raised me and my brothers to appreciate baseball for what it really is: America’s pastime. Born and raised in Philadelphia, some of my best memories took place at the Vet and then Citizens Bank Park with a glove on one hand and a hot dog in the other. I played baseball to compete with my brothers and watched baseball just to spend time with them. I remain a true Phillies fan at heart today, and am very honored to say that I have become a partial season ticket holder along with the same men that introduced me to the game.   Every year still brings the same excitement at the first signs of spring because to me, they’re just the first signs of baseball.

FAB

Fashion is a huge part of my life. The idea of waking up and choosing exactly what I want to wear that day based on how I feel or how I want to feel is both exciting and satisfying at the same time. As someone who enjoys expressing a creative side, my clothes allow me an outlet to do this on an every day basis.  Fashion gives people the ability to create, express, and feel exactly the way that they want to. In my life, style is power. As a member of Temple University’s Fashion and Business Club I have been given many opportunities to hear from big names in the fashion/ business industry as well as gain hands on experience through volunteer opportunities (spring CSPD wear to work fashion show)  and behind the scenes visits to buyer on site locations. I’ve loved every minute of learning that I’ve been lucky enough to receive while in FAB and I particularly enjoy my time writing for Temple’s first campus magazine created by FAB, The Style Book. Please feel free to check out my article on page 13, titled “Queen of Spades”, honoring Kate Spade (a woman that I admire and would love to meet one day!)

cooking Cooking is another hobby that I’m passionate about. For me, cooking is about more than good food, it’s about bringing people together. I have noticed over time that whenever I’m in the kitchen cooking, there is constant traffic inquiring about what smells so good. So I figured if the aromas of food can bring people into the kitchen, then the taste of food can get them to stay. I enjoy experimenting with ingredients that happen to be in my fridge that day and I appreciate the importance of fresh quality ingredients. If you’ve ever heard the saying “you are what you eat” then you understand my aesthetic behind cooking. My goal is to nourish the body with amazing ingredients that also taste just as fabulous!
