Project 3 – E-portfolio

Project 3: E-portfolio

Create a site that will highlight your resume and professional accomplishments on the MIS community (http://community.mis.temple.edu). The new site will have a permanent URL and you will be able to include that URL in your paper resume. The goal of this site is twofold. 1. Create a presence online so that people interested in your particular set of skills can easily find you. 2. To serve as a professional “portfolio”. Think of this site as being more formal than your Facebook page but more creative and open than your printed resume or LinkedIn page.

Project 3 Phase 1 and 2 are due June 17th end of Day.  There are 2 parts to this submission.

In order to submit this assignment you will post a comment at the bottom of this page with the following information: Last Name, First Name and URL.   The example if I were posting my blog would be: ( Latko, Jonathan  http://community.mis.temple.edu/jlatko)  You must log in to the Community Site in order to post a comment. If you post your assignment after June 17th, it will be considered late.   2nd: You must email me you URL and a screenshot of you Google Analytics setup.

The directions for the 3 phases can be found in the following document.  Check the syllabus for due dates of each part of the project.

UPDATE FOR GOOGLE ANALYTICS PORTION:  How-to-Connect-Your-E-portfolio-to-Google-Analytics (1)

Documentation and Tutorials for help creating your E-portfolio – http://community.mis.temple.edu/eportfolios/samples-and-resources/

Here is a more detailed version of the assignment:

This project will have  3 phases to it.  You will create an ‘e-portfolio’ for yourself, using WordPress and the Temple MIS Community site.  This online professional resume/portfolio of yourself will be available to internet users.  The landing page of your e-portfolio will be a blog page where you can post messages.  Follow the directions to include all the necessary parts.  In Phase 2 and 3 of this project you will then learn how to use Google Analytics to measure and analyze the data and traffic your e-portfolio ad generates.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

All students need to begin building their Community E-Portfolio site early in the semester.  It takes time to build a good e-portfolio, and you don’t want to wait until the last minute.

Part 1

You can create your E-Portfolio by going to the following site:

If you have a problem creating your 1st blog click here for information

There are plenty of tutorials on Word Press on the internet.

Important: Do NOT build your eportfolio directly on WordPress…make sure you go to the community site to log-in 1st:  community.mis.temple.edu

The key to a good E-Portfolio site is: practice, practice, practice!!!  You need to experiment to get the look and feel that you want.  The visual appearance is important, so think about how to make a useful, functional…clean site.

Google Analytics Results  (6pts)

After 6/17 but before 6/26 each classmate must visit at least 5 different classmate blogs. Please visit the 2-3 blogs before and after your posting. Leave a comment on the page if possible. This will help drive traffic to each other’s sites in order to pick up Google Analytic data.

By 6/26 your site should get some traffic.  The report of this traffic will be found on the dashboard of your site as well as the Google site.  Take your screen shot of the main analytics page (from the Google site) and paste it to a word document.  In addition to this screen shot, include the following items:

  1. Visit the Google site and analyze the total visits, bounce rate, traffic sources, and page views on your site. Write a short paragraph summarizing the specific numbers and what they mean (not the definitions of these fields but what the data is telling you).
  2. List three specific changes you can make to your site to increase the total visits.
  3. Write a short paragraph which explains how you could use this tool in the future to help you distribute information or sell products/services on the web more effectively.
