Software
Before the first day of class, students are required to install the software we are using in this course. The software is free.
- Windows PC users should install VS Code and Bitvise.
- Mac OS users should install VS Code and FileZilla.
- Please note – while either platform can be used successfully in this class, most exercises and challenges are written with Windows PC screenshots and terminology.
VS Code is a free text editor created by Microsoft, and runs on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Linux platforms. It is a good editor for JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
Bitvise (for Windows) is a free secure shell client that can be used to connect a Windows PC to a remote server, usually a Linux system.
FileZilla (for Mac OS) is a free file transfer utility that can be used to connect a Mac OS computer to a remote server, usually a Linux system. You should note that there is both a FileZilla client, and a FileZilla server. You only need the client. Do not install the FileZilla server.
