The Abington Club
The Abington Club, a country club in Jenkintown PA, has been my summer home since I was in Elementary School. I began as a camper at the age of eight, attending every summer, until I reached the age limit of the camp, 12. Knowing that I could not return as a camper was heartbreaking at first but working as a counselor was much more rewarding. I started as a lower level counselor doing various tasks for my superiors and playing with the children. After a few summers I became a camp favorite. Everyone knew my name, even members of the club who I would run in to during daily operations. This “fame” eventually gave me the opportunity to become the head counselor of the eldest group (10 to 12). I felt honored to be given such a great opportunity to give the kids the summers that I remember to this day.
I led a team of counselors who oversaw a group of approximately 40 ten to twelve year old kids through daily operations. Through this I developed life long relationships with co-workers, friends, and families, as well as astounding leadership skills.
