Professional Development

Computer Skills

As a business student I am constantly looking to increase my skills and computer fluency.  I am proficient in Microsoft Office, with a thorough understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Many of my homework assignments and projects require me to work in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Additionally, as an MIS student I am learning about many Information Systems that benefit and organize enterprises.  In my first MIS course I have learned to use pivot tables in Excel, SAP, Google Analytics, WordPress, and POM-QM for Windows.  I am also trained in MySQL and  SAS Enterprise Minor to complete data analysis.

Boeing Case Competition

In the Spring of 2012 I was fortunate enough to participate in Boeing’s Case Competition during my time at the Pennsylvania State University.  For this competition I was assigned to a team of 5 members.  Our goal was to tackle the question, “Should the South American countries of Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil implement an economic structure similar to that of the European Union?”  We were asked to think critically about our decision while analyzing the economic, political, and social effects that this new structure would have on a potential South American Union.  Our group worked well together as we tackled the immense amounts of research and planning that was required to answer this question.  I was able to see the concepts I learned in Economics, Management, and Sociology applied to current real-world issues.  This experience helped me develop professionally because it required me to work in a team dynamic to tackle real-world issues, and gave me an opportunity to present to professionals in the business world.  Participating in this Case Competition was a challenging yet rewarding experience that gave me insight on what it will be like to work on long-term problems and presentations in my future occupation.
