Being an Effective Team Member
Type of course: Professional Skills
Instructor: Daisy Lovelace
The course begins by talking about how we see teams around us, no matter where we are or what career path we choose. It’s important to prioritize the needs and goals of the team over your own goals. Reliability is very important because other team members need to know that they can rely on you. For example make sure you keep your promises and always do your part of the work.
I learned that you should always demonstrate positivity by doing things like staying away from gossiping and note out the strengths of you teammates, which will make them feel appreciated. One thing to keep in mind is that people might forget what you say or what you accomplish but they will never forget how you make them feel. So always try to be polite and respectful to your teammates. Make sure you are collaborative and put the team before yourself, even if the team is not doing everything you want.
The coursework is very important for college classes because there are many group projects that might have to be done. In the corporate world there are groups that I might have to be apart of to complete certain tasks for a company. This coursework on how to be a good team member will definitely help.
