IT Internship at Inovio
Inovio is a pharmaceutical company focused on developing DNA-based immunotherapies to prevent and cure infectious diseases. As a summer IT intern at Inovio, I used what I have learned in Temple’s MIS program to add value to the company in several areas. I spent much of the first half of my internship resolving help-desk tickets involving hardware issues, software requests, and setting up employee workstations. As the summer progressed, I began developing webpages for the company’s intranet site using WordPress. To do this successfully, my project manager and I gathered requirements from each department, created pages that met their needs, and made changes according to their feedback.
Through this experience, I developed strong customer service skills through my help-desk work as well as web development skills, and I learned a lot about how a pharmaceutical company functions. By attending periodic lunch-and-learn sessions, I was able to develop an understanding of all aspects of the company, including product development, research, and device training. Working at a small company gave me the chance to participate in department meetings and have my voice be heard. During the meetings, I took notes on project updates and overall status of the IT department. My experience as an intern at Inovio taught me a lot about the pharmaceutical industry and how to apply my skills in the work place.
