Temple University Investment Association/ The Owl Fund

At Temple University, I am majoring in finance.  Temple has two student professional organizations that are connected with being a finance major.  I am a member of one of these student organization, Temple University Investment Association.    Temple University Investment Association serves as both the generator and disseminator of information regarding the selection of equity securities for the Fund’s portfolio. The William C. Dunkelberg Owl Fund has a portfolio composed of equity investments throughout various sectors of the economy. Industry standard research tools such as Bloomberg Professional, Morningstar and Capital IQ are used to conduct company due diligence and valuation in creating research reports that are presented to the TUIA. Investment analysis and equity pitches are done in the Capital Markets Room. You can visit their website at www.theowlfund.com

Alpha Tau Omega

I am currently a brother in the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Iota Psi Chapter, at Temple University.  I have been a member for approximately two years now.  Within the fraternity, we do a lot of different activities to help out the community around us.  Every semester we Adopt-a-Block, in which we pick a block near our house and clean it for the entire semester.  We have regular can shakes to collect money for ailing family members of brothers, cancer research, Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia and many more.  We partake in Relay for Life at Temple University every year and try to raise as much money as possible.  Each year we also have a signature event, which is a week long fundraiser week for a charity of our choice.  We host bake sales, can shakes, 48 hour camp outs, row-a-thons, and many more activities to raise as much money as possible.  This year, we are actually doing all of those things i previously listed and making our own carnival games and activities to bring children from the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia to come play.  It is a very rewarding experience.

Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia/ Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program

For approximately a year and a half, I have been volunteering at Fairmount Boys and Girls club in Philadelphia located at 11th and Poplar streets.  I try to go there once a week and help children with whatever they need.  I sometimes help them with homework,  a hobby, sports, or anything they need.  I sometimes bring whomever outside and play sports or kickball or an y organized sport we have decided.

I also mentor a 9 year old named Jermaine through the Big Brothers program.  This program matches you with a child who needs a mentor and you are supposed to visit them for 2 hours a week, either at their school or after school program.  This program is an easy way to give back to the community while building a life long bond with someone who needs your help.  It is one of the most rewarding things i have volunteered to do while at Temple.

Sports and Activity

I have been playing sports all my life.  Growing up as a child I would play all kinds of sports.  Any sports my friends or neighbors were playing, basically anything I could compete against someone because I love competition.  I love to see where i stand against someone else or the other team.  While growing up I played 3 recreational sports: Football, Wrestling, and Baseball.  After a few years, i stopped playing baseball and only wrestled and played football until I graduated high school.

Sports have done a lot for me throughout my life.  They have always given me a place to escape and problems or worries I had and just focus on sports.  It allowed me to take time off from real life and enjoy playing.  It also taught me a lot of life lessons.  Lessons such as hard work and determination truly does pay off, it taught me to trust my teammates and coaches, the honor of playing the sport, discipline, how to overcome obstacles and many more.  I thank sports for giving me these opportunities and link what I will do in the business world to the success of my athletic life.

Since sports have been such a big part of my life I continue to follow and play them.  Whether it is through college intramural teams, working out, playing pick up games, or even helping out a little league practices, I continue to engage in them.

Some of my favorite sports teams are the New York Giants, New York Yankees and the New Jersey Devils.

Music Concerts and Festivals

As I have grown older, i have become a huge fan of music.  One of my favorite things to do on weekends it to go to a variety of different concerts and shows, a majority of which being DJ’s.  I enjoy going to these shows because of the culture of the people who go and I love the music.  The “scene” as it is called is based of a principle called P.L.U.R.  It stands for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect.  This culture really does embody that and when you go to these shows and festivals people make you feel welcomed.  It doesn’t matter what walk of the earth you are from, people will respect and love you.  As a group, the whole “scene’ is in unity, and everyone should live peacefully on earth.  You can look up artists, genres, concerts, festivals, and a lot more about this type of music if you visit http://www.1001tracklists.com/
