7th Annual Alexion Analytics Challenge
On 11/12/19, Diana Westerfer and myself were selected as the 1st place winners of the Alexion Analytics Challenge. The challenge was sponsored by Alexion in coordination with IBIT, and hosted at Temple University in the MBA commons. Alexion posed the question, “What makes Clinical Drug Trials Successful?”, and provided competitors with data in the form of an excel document. Although I placed as a finalist last year, I was able to take the constructive criticism the judges provided and make this years graphic even better, finishing as a 1st place winner this time.
We were also able to practice our data visualization, analytics, and pitching skills in a professional yet competitive environment. All of these skills tie directly into the core of Management Information Systems, particularly into the data analytics and data science aspects.
Describe the challenge/competition
- 1st place (Graphics)
- Alexion
- 7th floor MBA Commons, 11/12/19, Alexion Data Analytics Challenge (e.g., where, when, what you won)
- Through competing last year, I used that to my advantage and improved my analyzation and graphical presentation skills in improving placement. I also learned that drug trials are significantly lower at being successful than I had thought, and that less people were trialed than I initially had thought.
- These skills tie directly into the core of Management Information Systems, particularly into the data analytics and data science aspects, also team working and communication skills. And Excel, SQL, and graphical aspects.
- Once approved, the description is automatically displayed in a post on your e-portfolio.
