Finance Intern

  1. AmerisourceBergen is a Pharmaceutical Distribution Company with about 22,000 associates worldwide and in 2018 they reported a revenue of $167 billion. I worked in the Conshohocken office.
  2. I was a part of the Portfolio Analytics and Solutions Team, which supports the Finance Department. Our team is responsible for assisting the Finance teams with analytics, reporting, and creating interactive solutions in various projects. I was assigned my own project for the summer, working with a tool where I was responsible for managing, maintaining, and reporting on the progress of the data entry.
  3. I mostly worked within a Contract Review Tool, which captures contract terms and turns them into structured data that can be reported and analyzed. Every week I was responsible for creating a report on the number of contracts I entered and how many still have to be entered. Since the beginning of my internship, I was able to increase the number of contracts entered by about 40%. I also created a report which demonstrates the value the tool would bring to the company. This report was shown to the Group CFO and I may have the opportunity to present my report to him. (I have been asked to stay on part-time)
  4. The SQL skills that I learned in MIS 3501 and refined in MIS 3502 helped me immensely, I used SQL almost every day to create my reports. The principles I learned in MIS 3535 also were relevant. My team used the Agile methodology and I was able to participate in our stand-up meetings. I also saw the effect of not having the proper documentation. The skills I learned in MIS 2502 also helped me a lot. I learned a lot about extracting, cleaning, validating and making sense of data. The problem-solving skills I learned in MIS 3506 also came in handy. We are also having conversations about improving the efficiency of the tool and I have to be able to understand both the business requirements and the technical requirements.
