Data Analytics Intern
Data Analytic Intern, FS Investments, June 2022 – August 2022
During the summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Data Analytics Intern at FS Investments. FS Investments is a fund management company with a vision to provide investors with access to alternative investment sources historically only available to large institutions and the wealthiest individuals. Founded in 2007, the company is currently headquartered in Philadelphia, PA with offices in NY, FL and KS. I was assigned multiple projects where I had to understand investor and client relationships in order to improve processes and business decisions. I began with a fund allocation project for FS’s contract renewal with its data servicer. Using Microsoft Excel, I collected information from invoice receipts, such as invoice ids, billed employees and cost allocations. I loaded and aggregated the data using standard SQL into the cloud-based data platform, Snowflake. From the results, I created data visualizations and presented my preliminary findings to the Data Analytics and Operations team. My work on the project helps the contract renewal process by providing insight for cost reduction. My fundamental learnings from MIS 2502 (Data and Analytics) on MySQL, NoSQL and how databases overall work allowed me to quickly grasp the technical aspect of the role quickly. The internship was a valuable experience in exposing me to financial services and making connections with people of all different disciplines.
