IT Security Intern
Alexion Pharmaceuticals is a biotech company in New Haven, Connecticut. There I worked as an IT Security inter working on their converged security infrastructure. This meant that sometimes I would be working on the cyber security side, while other times I worked with the technology that the physical security team utilized. Projects I did ranged from working with developing Vulnerability Management Practices for the foundational cyber security implementations and developing the framework for their Security Information and Event Management system, Splunk. I also helped code some templates for a DocuSign implementation and managed a Shuttle Service Website. I was able to also work on correcting the global badging database and begin integrating this database with Splunk. I also lead a Phishing Training Campaign.
I learned that I really enjoy security and that analytics is closely tied to it. I finally found a field that lets me get technical, lets me analyze data, and better improve our current state to keep the company, and in turn our employees and patients, safe. Technology is pervasive and continuously developing. My experience in analytics and coding came into play. My database and IT architecture knowledge came into play as well. I really enjoyed the security field.
