IT Business Solutions Intern
From June 4th through August 10th I have been interning at Deloitte Global\’s Glen Mills office as an IT Business Solutions Intern.
As a Business Solutions intern, one of my primary focuses was using and learning about databases and database management. I learned how to use Dell Boomi\’s database integration software to automate the data upload from member firm databases to Global\’s Learning Management System database. I utilized company API\’s to extract, transform, and load the data into the LMS Oracle database. All of this ties into concepts we have touched on in classes we have in our major. The Data Analytics course we take prepared me for the ETL processes I have been using. Data Analytics also prepared me with the general database management knowledge needed to navigate the company\’s data terrain. Finally, the SQL skills we learned in Data Analytics as well as Data-Centric Applications Development helped prepare me for all of the SQL work I\’ve been doing. My LMS project has without a doubt improved my ability to work with data and databases, and has opened many doors for me in terms of specializations I can pursue learning more about.
Another focus of mine was real-life practice in performing the job functions of a Business Analyst. I took part in daily scrum calls with teams in India, the Middle East, and Italy. Each of these calls centered around the data integration for each member firm in order to assure data integrity. In addition, I used Oracle SQL Developer to analyze incoming data and ensure integrity. Using concepts I learned in our Digital Design and Innovation course, I interacted with clients from each respective member firm and helped document data requirements according to each firm\’s specific needs. My team interacted with our member firm clients to understand their needs and concerns and worked to bring a solution or clarity whenever possible. The opportunities presented to me during these Member Firm Integration projects helped me develop my soft skills as well as my documentation skills, and taught me a lot about how international projects are completed in the real world as wells as how client interactions are organized and carried out.
