Student Worker – Information Technology Department
- Overall Role:
- Provided desktop support and handled technical troubleshooting, including system crashes and data recoveries
- Responsible for communicating with a minimum of 20 lab users daily to complete reservations for scheduled break-out rooms, and answer technical questions related to lab equipment
- Maintained and updated lab desktop computers and printers for user satisfaction and convenience
- What I accomplished: I was able to help lab users on issues that were specific to them. Users may have had trouble with software such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, I would then do my best to help tackle their problems. Others may have struggled to use our lab equipment, my role was to look at the equipment and figure out a solution. This involved systems crashes, start-ups, and teaching users how to work with our technology.
- What you learned and how it relates to your major: I learned how to take on technical problems related to technology on the spot. This relates to my major, because in MIS we work with technology a lot. We learn a lot with software, such as excel and programming languages. I was able to put this to use when helping lab users. Additionally, it helped me work more with hardware, which is also a valuable skill to have.
