La Universidad de Oviedo – Spring 2016

spain 2

During the spring semester of 2016, I studied abroad at the University of Oviedo in the Asturias region of Spain. The Temple University program that I participated in was Spanish intensive and used immersion to rapidly develop language skills. While there, I took a full course load of 15 credits consisting solely of Spanish language classes and completed the semester with a 4.0 GPA.  My favorite part of the program was living with a Spanish family because it was an amazing opportunity to experience Spanish food culture and practice my communication skills. As a double major in MIS and Spanish, the Temple in Spain program greatly helped me develop my language skills, and I can now proudly say that I am one step closer to achieving my career goal of someday using Spanish in the workplace. With the increasing globalization in the business world, knowing a second language is exceedingly valuable and it is important to me to develop communication skills outside of those taught in business schools. Studying abroad in Spain was a challenging experience but I am wholly grateful for the opportunity, and I look forward to further developing my language skills.

Temple University Rome – Summer 2015

During the summer of 2015, I studied abroad in Rome at one of Temple University’s international campuses. During my six weeks in Italy, I took two classes (Business, Society, and Ethics: Global Responsibility and The History of Art in Rome) for a total of seven credits. As a product of the immersive learning environment I experienced, I learned a considerable amount from this study abroad program. Additionally, I gained an understanding of Italian culture and increased independence and confidence from navigating a new city where I did not speak the language. While I was studying in Rome, I also organized my own travel to other Italian cities, such as Florence and Venice, and to Barcelona. After the program ended, I also single-handedly coordinated a backpacking trip during which I visited 9 European cities in the span of 4 weeks.
