Implementation Consultant Intern

Job Title: Implementation Consultant Intern
Name of Organization: John Kennedy Subaru
Job Duration: 07/11/18 – 10/02/18

Job description:
The John Kennedy Subaru dealership, located in Plymouth Meeting, PA, needed assistance with implementing new software to replace a majority of their existing system’s architecture which affected both employees and customers alike. I was hired on toward the end of it’s development. My team consisted of myself, the Implementation Consultant, and the IT staff. My specific purpose was to understand these new systems so that I could help integrate them into normal business operations. I was also responsible for helping customers and employees understand and use these new systems. I was expected to come in a minimum of 35 hours per week to accomplish these tasks.

One of my duties included contacting customers to notify them about the changes made and what action to take, if any. I contacted over 300 customers and assisted them with any questions they had after giving them this new information. I also helped existing employees understand, and utilize, the new systems as they began to roll out toward the end of my employment. By the time my employment ended, the majority of the employees were using the new software with little difficulty. Additionally, I assisted with data migration from the legacy system previously in place. All pertinent data was successfully transfered to my knowledge. Lastly, I provided additional IT support, when requested, to customers and employees. In most cases, I was successful in providing support, but occasionally sought second opinions to confirm my answers.

The biggest learning experience for me, personally, was communicating with all different types of people to bridge the gap between IT and the floor staff during this big change. The experience reminded me of Digital Solutions Studio (MIS 3506). One of the major things taught in that class was communication between various departments, especially during a project such as this. This was a great opportunity to put that skill to use. When it came to data entry and migration, my experience in Enterprise IT Architecture (MIS 2501) was invaluable. It helped me understand their network infrastructure far more easily so I could be of more assistance to everyone. That same class also enabled me to be able to manipulate the company’s database, where appropriate, utilizing my basic understanding of SQL. Overall, this experience has been invaluable to furthering my experience in the MIS field.
