Of the above listed courses, some of the most valuable have been Enterprise IT Architecture, and Digital Solutions Studio. Both have helped poise me for the professional world.
Enterprise IT Architecture explained company system infrastructure in more detail. This included discussions about networks, self guided research about technologies the run these businesses, and hands on construction of a virtual network. This class has enabled me to understand and visualize the network infrastructure of companies. This will be important in a number of career paths. In my case, this will translate well into a cyber security based position. Understanding flaws, threats, and weaknesses in a company’s network is vital for this. Additionally, the class was also required to do “Flash Research Assignments”. These activities helped improve my writing, reading, and communications skills as we were limited to a page to argue a solution for a business case. This required us to quickly take in information, understand it, and then explain it.
Digital Solutions Studio was a very unique class that challenged what I thought I knew about project management. The course itself was centered around a real-world project we were a part of. A real company came to Temple with a business problem that needed to be solved. We were then put into groups, each categorized to complete a certain aspect of the project. I had worked in groups before, but never was it this involved. This experience allowed me to really work on interpersonal skills as well as time and project management. These are all skills needed to become a well-practiced business analyst, another career goal of mine.
